Great North Woods Riders
ATV Club
Membership meeting report for
May 15, 2008, 7:00pm
Attendance: Keith Landry, Jenn Landry, Warren Chase, Kevin Judd, Wayne Griffin, Steve Kiley, Don Belliveau, Armand Buteau, Dan Cashman, Al Cahsman, Darrin Jock, Bill Johnson.
Secretary report- Jenn reviewed the last meetings minutes
Treasurer’s report- treasurer was not at meeting. Jenn noted there were 2 bills to be paid when the mail was picked up this week. One from last season, for the porta potty. Membership- Membership chair was not at meeting. Jenn noted from the mail picked up there were 6 business members and 38 regular members.
Maps- Keith and John will be working on GPS’ing the remaining trails Friday. Jenn and Keith have contacted many businesses about ads. About ½ of the businesses have also signed up as business members. If space on map gets limited we may need to go to members get listed first.
Trailwork- work detail 5/17 Saturday, meet at 8 am at trailhead. Making sure trails are clear of trees and if time allows signing (especially end of permitted ATV use areas). Note any areas that need additional work (washouts, etc) and get info to Warren. Will also have trail work, May 24 at 8am. Keith mention the top of Cowan Hill, L4wd section has some very sharp rocks sticking out. Warren will take a look when he is out there to see if it should be closed or fixed.
Rhino- Darrin has done most work on the Rhino, it does still need brakes.
Storage building- Warren needs to check with Perry Stream L&T to see if it is ok for the club to build a ‘movable’ storage building by the Yamaha shop. Club is looking for place to store Rhino, grille, signs and other equipment.
Events- opening planned for Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, as we have done in the past we are planning a clean-up, scavenger hunt and bbq. BBQ at noon in Farr Road pit. We do need volunteers to help out and some folks to bring salads and baked goods. Discussion on need to have a club gas grill, motion to approve the expense about $300 by Darrin, seconded by Warren.
Pig roast and poker run planned for last weekend in September.
Old Home Day planning on participating in the parade; will let other area clubs know if they want to participate.
Website- Need update- Mark will set up Paypal account on our website if someone wants to do a membership on-line or order a map. $1.00 will be added to cost of map to cover postage, etc. Inquiries for membership and maps will be forwarded directly to John, so they can be processed in a timely manner. Events need to be added to website ASAP.
Rec Plan- the first 5 year plan has been signed; Jenn will prepare a letter for the state.
Brush hog- no update
Finances- RTP grant has been declined. The state has limited funds, not giving much for grants this year. GIA will most likely just give what is needed for emergency fixes. Warren will look into the Yamaha and Polaris grants that are available as well.
Trails for area businesses- Dan Cashman from Sunrise Lodge spoke about how he and some of the businesses near the Tarns can have direct access to the trails. There are a few obstacles in the way. Angwins do not want to allow ATV’s on their property. It would be difficult to get State approval to use ROW. Warren suggested Dan get support of other businesses and they all go to speak to the selectmen. Maybe a large group can convince them use of some town roads is necessary to help our businesses.
Fund raising- Dan mentioned if we could get volunteers NE Speedway pays clubs $8/hr for volunteers at the races. Armand mentioned Games of chance as an option the PRR use. You do need a club member at all the games (1 evening). The PRR raised $6,800 last year.
Fish and Game- Warren stated there is new leadership at NH F&G, Glen Normandeau. Jenn will write a letter to welcome him and see if he would like to come meet with our club.
Local police- did not get the grant to help patrol our ATV trails. Appears the selectmen did not apply for it this year.
Meeting adjourned 8:30pm
